Talgo 102 and 112: High Speed in the most competitive market in the world

The 102 and 112 series are Talgo's answer to the Spanish high-speed market, the most competitive in the world. Designed for a speed of 330 km/h, they have become the most widely used series by Renfe (the Spanish National Railway Operator) thanks to their excellent performance.

Spain's high-speed railway has two key traits: it is one of the most extensive national networks, and it is currently the most competitive and open market for rolling stock in the world.

As opposed to countries like France or Germany, where it is customary to purchase rolling stock almost exclusively from the leading national company, Renfe has assembled its high-speed fleet through a series of extremely competitive tenders in which companies from all over the world have participated.  In an environment where only the best features and lowest purchase and operation costs succeed, Renfe has tended to favour Talgo 350 with its fleet now containing 50 of these sets, which are designated Series 102 and 112.

A decade of success

Talgo Series 102 trains first entered service on the Spanish high-speed network in 2005.

The most competitive purchase price

Talgo has become the leading rolling stock manufacturer in Spain not only because of its distinctive technology, but also because it offers the most affordable rolling stock on the market. Almost four out of every five of Spain's high-speed trains now comes from Talgo factories because they are proven to be the cheapest option for taxpayers and the most profitable for operators.

Minimal maintenance Costs

By utilising preventive and predictive techniques, and a strategy based on high availability, Talgo offers the most competitive maintenance service on the market for series 102 and 112. The trains are only at the workshop when absolutely necessary, which helps Renfe to maximise the performance of its fleet.

Simple access to a safe journey

Talgo sets itself apart from other railway manufactures that still use traditional technological principles developed in the 19th century. All trains are equipped with Talgo's own rolling assembly - the rodal or Talgo truck - which makes it possible for the train floor to be at platform level, providing passengers with straightforward access to trains at all intermediate stations on Spain's extensive high-speed network.

Maximum comfort while relaxing or working

Series 102 and 112 offer the highest levels of comfort on the market. The independent running gear, which does not require bogies, eliminates any discomfort caused by hunting oscillation. The train's air suspension and soundproofing systems also reduce vibrations and noise. In addition, HVAC systems make it possible to maintain a pleasant room temperature even in the varying climate of the Iberian Peninsula.
