Talgo in Germany
The ‘Company of the Year 2023’ comes at a unique moment in the railway sector worldwide, in which the train as a real, efficient and sustainable alternative in terms of mobility, in line with the European objectives of decarbonisation of the economy for 2030 and 2050. In this context, and thanks to the recognised sustainability of its trains, its unique technology and know-how, Talgo has become the leading Spanish company in the design and manufacture of the most sustainable trains on the market.
Talgo trains have lighter structures than those of its competitors, which saves costs for operators and reduces energy consumption in operations. The company’s commitment to offering new and better sustainable solutions to operators is also reflected in the implementation of eco-designs in its products and services, in order to strengthen their life cycle and contribute to a circular economy model. The lightweight materials used in its trains have a high recyclability rate, which helps to extend the product’s life cycle while minimising its environmental impact, thus reducing the carbon footprint generated by industrial activities.
Its vision and commitment to sustainability demonstrates the company’s operational and commercial flexibility to anticipate and adapt to the needs of customers and the railway market. This company’s strength has enabled Talgo to take its trains to demanding and strategic markets such as Germany, where the German state-owned operator Deutsche Bahn has chosen Talgo to design the trains for the future ICE L, which aim to decarbonise mobility in Central Europe with long-distance services. This new design will reinforce Deutsche Bahn’s fleet and transform rail transport in the country thanks to its commercial speed, greater passenger comfort, lower vehicle weight and lower energy consumption.
