11 de July de 2016
TALGO Foundation has signed a cooperation agreement with the NGO Sonrisas de Bombay, in order to participate in the “Bawadis” project, which is promoted by the NGO to help people of low-income neighbourhoods in Bombay.
The Bawadis Project has as a main objective to educate children aged between 0 to 6 years from shantytowns of the north of Bombay and east Andheri to prevent them from falling into criminal networks, as also to give them opportunities for a brighter future. In particular, the involvement of TALGO Foundation in the project will facilitate the funding of one of the 30 balwidis (kindergarten staff), the balwidi nº 11, Rose.
For TALGO Foundation, the implementation of this project as a part of its plan of action represents one step further towards strengthening its strong commitment to help India, the country with the highest extreme poverty rate in the world. According to Intermon OXFAM, nowadays, 330 million Indians live below the poverty line, there are almost 2.5 times more illiterate people in India than in the entire sub-Saharan Africa, and near one third of the children under the age of 16 are destined to child labour.
Sonrisas de Bombay considers the business private sector as a leading actor in the process of social transformation and a key strategic ally at a long term to keep carrying out its projects.
