Talgo gets a €107 million contract for the conversion of its Series 7 overnight trains into very-high speed trains
6 de February de 2018
RENFE informed today February 5th the resolution agreeing to award Talgo with a contract for the conversion of Series 7 overnight trains into very-high speed trains capable of travelling at 330km/h.
Under the contract Talgo will be responsible for the conversion of 156 coaches (equivalent of 13 trains) of the Series 7 units operated by Renfe under the commercial brand “Tren hotel” into very high-speed units, with an option for 72 additional coaches (that is, 6 additional trains), depending on the final requirements of Renfe.
The full contract value should the option be executed amounts to €151 million for the conversion of 228 coaches (107 €m for the first 156 coaches).
With this contract Talgo would reinforce its leadership in the very high-speed Spanish rolling stock market, where it has already provided the Series 102 and Series 112 trains (Talgo 350), the Series 130 and Series 730 (the gauge-changing Talgo 250 and the hybrid Talgo 250 Dual). Talgo was also designated last year as the sole provider of a new generation of very high-speed trains with the Series 106 (Avril), a train with single-floor at platform level and capacity for over 520 passengers.
About Series 7 overnight trains
The Talgo Series 7 trains were the first ones designed specifically by the Spanish train manufacturer to be operated in very high-speed lines. These trains can reach 220 km/h under commercial service, and are also dual-gauge capable trains, allowing them to adapt their track-gauge to both the 1,435mm (Standard gauge) and the 1,668mm (Iberian gauge) networks of Spain automatically and without stopping.
